Smoothies are an excellent post work out snack or scrumptious breakfast when you're on the run. It's important to ensure that when you're making your smoothies to stick to whole ingredients as many people load them full of sugary fruit juices and other "not so healthy" ingredients that turn that energising meal into a calorie blow out.
While we are not advocates of strict calorie counting, we equally recommend that people trying to eat clean and get into shape not drink their calories. This means no sodas, sugary beverages (like sugar filled ice coffees) and sugary fruit juices. The below recipe is our go to after a work out or for brekkie on the run.
1/2 cup mixed berries (frozen is best first thing in the morning - and cheaper!)
1/2 cup water or plant based milk
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
Fresh berries and mint (to decorate)
NOTE: Vegan protein powders can easily overpower the flavour of anything - so make sure you select one that tastes good to you.
1. Add the berries and the milk and then blend until smooth. Add more milk for a thinner consistency or more berries for a thicker consistency.
2. Add in your protein powder and blend again until completely mixed. This will ensure you don't end up with clumps of protein powder in your smoothie
3. Top with berries of your choice
4. Serve immediately
